Commenting on figures released by the House of Commons Library that highlight that people living in urban areas are getting more funding per person than those living in some more rural areas, Sarah Carr, Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Hereford and South Herefordshire said,
"It is scandalous that some rural areas are not getting their fair share of funding. I am committed to working extremely hard to ensure that Herefordshire gets fair funding from central government and at the same time holding to account Herefordshire Council to ensure responsible decision-making with that money."
"People who live in more rural areas are already feeling the pressure from increasing fuel, food and property prices and must get a fair deal. I look forward to seeing continued increases in investment from central government in Herefordshire including direct investment such as we have had with the Learning Village in Hereford, the Education Access Zone and funding for flood defences in Ross and Hereford for which Paul Keetch MP has worked hard."
Conservative-led Herefordshire Council has been continually slammed by independent groups for its ineffectual attempts to secure government money. Their bids for flood defence money would have been thrown out if Paul Keetch had not stepped in to save the much-needed projects.
