Sarah Carr, local campaigner and Liberal Democrat Prospective MP for Hereford, Ross and South Herefordshire, has welcomed news from Hereford County Hospital that they have decided to review the limited car parking concession arrangements at the County Hospital. Mrs Carr has been championing the cause of many elderly and disabled residents in Herefordshire angered by the expensive car parking charges at Hereford County Hospital.

A letter to Sarah Carr from the Hospital Chief Executive Martin Woodford reads "we have adjudged that it would be timely to review those concession arrangements and will take account of the issues you have raised when doing so."

Commenting on the letter Sarah Carr said,

"I am delighted that the Hospital Trust will now be reviewing car parking concessions at the County Hospital. Parking at the Hospital is expensive especially for the elderly and disabled who often have to manage on a limited fixed income. They simply cannot afford expensive car parking charges for essential treatments.

"With a review of concessions in progress I will now step up my campaign to scrap car parking charges for all patients and visitors at Hereford County Hospital. Patients and visitors do not need the added stress and financial burden of expensive car parking charges on top of essential hospital treatment".

Mrs Carr has been contacted by many local disabled and elderly residents about the cost of parking at the Hospital and as a result has been in correspondence with the Hospital Trust questioning why there are no car parking charge concessions or exemptions for patients and visitors with Blue Disabled badges and further whether they have considered revising the concessions list or abolishing Car Park Charges for more vulnerable groups. In the letter Sarah pointed out that in Scotland and Wales hospital car parking charges have been abolished.
