11.29.41pm BST (GMT +0100) Mon 19th Apr 2010

Sarah Carr, the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate has today welcomed Simon Hughes, the Liberal Democrat Shadow Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and ex-National Party President to Hereford in support of her campaign to become Hereford and South Herefordshire's next MP. Simon Hughes has strong links with area having family in both Hereford and Hampton Bishop. Sarah Carr and Simon Hughes were also accompanied by Paul Keetch.

The group first met with residents in Aylestone to discuss local issues, then went onto a walk around High Town in Hereford meeting shoppers. The next stop was to view the Hereford flood defences that Paul Keetch was instrumental in achieving. Finally the group visited the Mappa Mundi and Hereford Cathedral. Sarah Carr has been a strong supporter of rural tourism to help boost the local economy.

Simon Hughes said:

"It's great to be back in Herefordshire supporting Sarah's campaign to become Hereford and South Herefordshire's next MP. Paul Keetch has done a fantastic job representing local people and I am absolutely convinced that Sarah is the best person to continue working hard work for local people.

Sarah Carr said:

"I am delighted that Simon Hughes has come to give his support to my campaign - with strong links to the local area Simon knows how important it is to have an MP that will work hard for local people no matter what their political views are.

"Attracting investment to our region is key for the future - Paul Keetch did a great job securing additional funding for the Hereford Flood defences that Simon saw first hand today. I am determined to continue ensuring that Hereford and South Herefordshire get their fair share from government."
